Health Guarantees

Each puppy goes home with a three-part health guarantee from Jersey Golden Retrievers.

These sections include the 72-hour Health Guarantee, Hip Guarantee, and Genetic Health Guarantee.

      72Hr  Health Guarantee

This guarantee is good for 72 hours after the transfer of the puppy from the breeder to the buyer. The buyer agrees to have the puppy seen by a licensed veterinarian within these 72 hours. If the puppy is found to be injured or life threateningly unhealthy, the breeder will provide the buyer with a replacement puppy of equal value as soon as one becomes available, once the puppy and all paperwork is returned to the breeder. Written proof from a licensed veterinarian of the condition must also be provided to the breeder upon return of the puppy and all other aspects of this contract must be met. If the puppy is diagnosed with parvovirus during these 48 hours, the parvo test must come back POSITIVE, the breeder also will provide the buyer a replacement puppy of equal value (when one becomes available) upon return of the puppy and all paperwork, as well as proof of the positive parvo test with a written statement with the vets diagnosis. If the puppy dies within the first 72 hours of being in the possession of the buyer, the buyer must have a necropsy performed to prove cause of death in order to receive a replacement puppy of equal value when one becomes available. The breeder has the right to have their own vet confirm any findings in said report. This does not cover any causes of death related to an injury of the puppy while in the buyer’s care, or any condition related to the negligence of the buyer regarding the safety and health of the puppy. In all circumstances, ALL aspects of this contract must be met in order for the buyer to receive a replacement puppy. This guarantee does NOT cover mange, mites, skin infections, fungal infections, hair loss, diarrhea, hypoglycemia, viral or bacterial colds, and/or infections such as coccidia, giardia, urinary tract infections and worms. All of these conditions are easily treated and not covered because they are natural things a puppy may pickup/contract. Puppies are naturally at risk for coccidia, giardia, and worms which are often brought on by the stress of a new home, new food, new people, or stress of transportation. Another thing that may show up when your puppy is taken to a new environment is kennel cough which is common when a puppy is transferred to a new home and is caused by bacteria. Kennel cough is self limiting and like the common cold, must run its course. Full recovery is expected and kennel cough, giardia, and coccidia on their own are not life threatening. All puppies are treated and/or vaccinated for worms, coccidia, parvovirus, and distemper before they leave our home. However, you need to be aware that these things can arise and most of them are not serious which is why we require a vet visit within 72hrs of pick up. We will not cover any vet bills under any circumstances once the puppy has left our possession. Vet bills are part of dog ownership.

       Hip Guarantee

Buyer understands that there are no 100% guarantees when dealing with living creatures and that not all problems are 100% genetically caused. The breeder, having in good conscience bred this litter from sound genetic stock, agrees to the following:  We guarantee your puppy to be free from any genetically caused hip dysplasiafor a period of up to 24 months of age. We do not guarantee your puppy to obtain any particular OFA rating as there are numerous factors such as diet (not being overweight), exercise, and injury that would affect such a rating. (a) For a hip claim, your dog must have had their hips x-rayed by 24 months to be covered by this guarantee. All x-rays must be submitted to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for evaluation. Proof of hip dysplasia from the OFA must be presented to Jersey Golden Retrievers. Buyer is financially responsible for this. (b) Buyer accepts responsibility to not allow puppy to become overweight, to jump from heights (furniture, cars, trucks, etc), jog with puppy on hard surfaces, or to give puppy excessive exercise. (c) Buyer agrees to not start agility, heavy or competitive field training or any activity which may damage the puppy’s bone or muscle structure until he/she has reached a minimum of 24 months of age.  If the puppy is found to have not been properly cared for based on conditions mentioned above, our hip guarantee becomes void.(d) Spaying or neutering a dog too early in their life is known to result in development issues of the joints, and therefore Jersey Golden Retrievers will not guarantee the joints of any dog spayed/neutered before 24 months of age. If the dog has been altered prior to reaching 24 months of age, this guarantee becomes void. (e) To make a claim against this guarantee, this dog must not have sired or whelped a litter. (f) Jersey Golden Retrievers reserves the right to view hip x-rays and will not abide by a diagnosis that was madevia an x-ray with improper/poor positioning. If x-ray is found t have improper/poor positioning, a second x-ray with proper positioning will be required at Buyers expense and resubmitted. (g)In the event that a replacement puppy is due, Jersey Golden Retrievers will provide a replacementonce the previous puppy that was found dysplastic has been spayed/neutered (at Buyers expense) or returned.  Proof of spay/neuter must be provided to Jersey Golden Retrievers by a licensed veterinarian before a replacementpuppy may be issued. A puppy being returned must be returned with all documentation including registration, vet paperwork, and so on before a replacement puppy will be given. (This guarantee is not transferrable. To make a claim against this guarantee, the original owner/buyer must still own the dog.

   GENETIC HEALTH GUARANTEE

At Jersey Golden Retrievers we offer one year warranty against genetic diseases. To make a claim against this warranty, buyer must have dog genetically health tested (at buyer’s cost). The breeder agrees to replace your puppy from equivalent quality from the next litter.
